Red cedar cladding turns The Rock green
John Brash has supplied its Western Red Cedar cladding to The Rock, a £350 million mixed-use residential and retail development. The project is one of the largest Western Red Cedar projects ever commissioned in the UK, requiring over 4,000m2 of material.
The cladding was specified by Building Design Partnership (BDP), the architects on the project, because they were looking for a natural, sustainable material that would add an aesthetic contrast to the grey fibre cement cladding used on other aspects of the development.
The boards were used to create a rear-ventilated rainscreen cladding system on all façades of one of the buildings. Block ‘B’, which is a mix of residential and retail units also benefited from the cladding, which was supplied with Class ‘O’ fire retardant treatment. The cladding was fixed by Longworth Building Services using rear-ventilated cladding modules.
All John Brash timber is sourced from renewable and environmentally well-managed sources with either FSC or PEFC certification.
“Longworth Building Services has helped create a stunning development at The Rock,” said Christian Brash of John Brash. “It demonstrates their technical capabilities in creating durable and visually pleasing façades. Our Western Red Cedar used at The Rock will provide the building with a sustainable and long-lasting rainscreen façade.”
