Apollo starts retrofit scheme
Apollo Housing will shortly start work with Crawley Borough Council, on a scheme to retrofit three homes, with funding won through the Technology Strategy Board’s national Retrofit for the Future competition. The exemplar retrofit programme will involve the innovative refit of three contrasting homes over a 12-week period, part of a pilot scheme that aims to bring the housing market a step closer to the target of an 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050.
Considerable emphasis will be placed on working directly with tenants to help them understand how best they can reduce their energy needs and cut wastage.
Tony Kemp, Apollo divisional director, said: “Apollo is a Decent Homes partner for Crawley Council, so we were a natural partner for the new Retrofit project too.
“Tenants are being involved throughout the process and we will ensure that they are continually updated on how we are progressing with the works in their homes.”
Karen Dodds, head of Crawley Homes, added: “We are rolling out our Retrofit programme carefully so we can learn from these initial projects and take actions that will have the most effective long-term reductions in energy use and wastage.
“It’s an extremely exciting project that will help the UK meet future CO2 reduction targets, leading to a greener future not just for Crawley residents but hopefully for people all across Britain.”
