Charter Specialist Security has supplied its security shutters for a new medical centre at Laird Street, Birkenhead.

The Merseyside centre is unfortunately a target for thieves, housing as it does both drugs and expensive medical equipment. It was essential that security was tight but, as a medical centre for the community, the building needed to be a pleasant and welcoming building as well.

Charter was involved from the design stage and supplied 35 Charter-Integr8 180LS security shutters and eight Intimidator steel doorsets, fitted to the ground floor and over the flat-roofed areas.

The building has various facades – timber cladding, aluminimum cladding and external brickwork – and Charter was able to supply shutters to fit into each of these. There was also a five-metre opening for which a custom shutter was made.

During the day when the centre is open the shutters retract into the lintel and cannot be seen. At night, they are closed by the touch of a button.
