Eye-catching drawings by children from Somers Park Primary School, in Somers Road, and Cottage Grove Primary School, in Chivers Close, have been used in a poster to advertise the new Somerstown adventure playground, which is due to open soon.

Somers Park headteacher Jan Fleming said: “The new playground will be a great facility for this area and I’m very proud that the children’s artwork will be on show all over Somerstown.”

Somerstown’s new adventure playground is part of Portsmouth City Council’s Play Pathfinder scheme to improve play provision for young people across the city. More than £2 million of funding from the department for children, schools and families will be used for new creative and challenging playgrounds.

It is anticipated that by the end of March there will be 28 new or refurbished play areas in Portsmouth with Somerstown’s new adventure playground to follow.

The playground is the first of a number of key proposed developments in the area over the next few years.

The council also plans to transform Somerstown with new community, youth and health facilities and quality, sustainable family houses.
