World-class waterfront proposal seeks interested developers

Developers are being invited to show their interest for one of the South Coast’s most exciting waterfront proposals, Royal Pier Waterfront in Southampton.

The site which is owned by Southampton City Council, the Crown Estate, and Associated British Ports is one of the focal points of Southampton. This proposal will have the added benefit of reconnecting the City back to its waterfront.

Councillor Royston Smith Cabinet Member for Economic Development said: “Royal Pier Waterfront is a unique opportunity for prospective development partners, not only to become part of one of the most dynamic cities emerging in Europe, but also to create a legacy in Southampton for which they can be truly proud.”

The regeneration opportunity extends to nearly 60 acres and is situated between the Eastern and Western Docks. The council and other land owners are seeking a high quality major mixed use development, on a scale that will ensure that Southampton’s waterfront becomes a world class venue.

Developers will need to show as part of their designs that there is a permanent and improved site for the International Boat Show, how they will preserve and improve Mayflower Park and how they will improve public pedestrian access to the waterfront.

In addition the plan will develop plans to deal with any potential road traffic problems.

This exciting project offers many potential opportunities including residential, offices, leisure and tourism, specialist retail, and boat-related activities for example a marina.
