The launch of the new government consultation into microgeneration is exactly what is needed to give a fresh boost to our carbon reductions drive. By changing the way our homes and communities use and generate energy, we can ensure we build a sustainable future that minimises our impact on the environment.

However, while it is inconceivable that the government can publish a new Microgeneration Strategy without giving consideration to the launch of Renewable Heat Incentives, we have been disappointed by the conspicuous lack of a mention for the hugely worthwhile scheme.

I hope that the Lib-Con politicians will follow in the footsteps of their predecessor and recognise the importance of offering financial motivation to consumers to introduce renewable energy technologies into their homes.

Without the RHI, the carbon reductions targets will be in jeopardy and the industry’s efforts to provide innovative solutions will have been in vain.

What the industry doesn't need, is more delay and uncertainty – always the risk with more consultation. Instead, a clear road map for the introduction of microgeneration is vital to enable the industry to invest in skills, product and manufacturing development.
